Department of Labor and Regulatory Affairs has imposed the nursing homes with fines between $34,000 and $17,600, and said that monitoring would be increased and required some personnel modifications. An spokesperson for The Michigan Protection & Advocacy Service said Wednesday they have compiled additional statistics that outline various new examples of abuse and neglect among the hundreds of nursing homes throughout the state of Michigan, including some in Oakland County that are not-yet identified publicly. In Oakland County alone, there are currently 33 nursing homes. “Examples of abuse and neglect range from maggot infestations and dangerous errors in medicine dosing to choking, restraining, burning and death,” according to the spokesperson for the Michigan Protection & Advocacy Service. Although cases of abuse and neglect can be unveiled in nursing facilities in any county throughout Michigan, those counties flagged in the report besides Oakland include: Calhoun, , Jackson, Kalamazoo, Marquette, Mecosta, Midland, Crawford, Genesee, Huron Muskegon, Saginaw, Shiawassee, St. Joseph, Washtenaw and Wayne. “While the report highlights various examples of abuse and neglect identified through state nursing home inspection surveys, MPAS believes there are many other examples that go unreported or undetected,” according to Elmer L.
