Local Law Firms Home > Medical Malpractice News > Family Awarded $4 Million After Wrongful Death in Hospital On Feb. 22, 2009 at 4:45am after being found unresponsive in her home, 43-year-old Terry Hiam was to East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry by an ambulance in in full cardiopulmonary arrest. Less than twenty minutes later at 5:04am she was pronounced dead by hospital staff. According to Terry Hiam’s death certificate, her cause of death was a heart attack, or myocardial infarction. Eleven days before the incident, Hiam was brought to a local urgent facility near the hospital by an ambulance, where a physician by the name of Dr. Stephen Heirendt looked at her and gave her a diagnosis. His assessment was chest pain of unknown cause in addition to bronchitis, and was then discharged.
