Grounds for Divorce in Kansas
When a married couple with assets divorces in the state of Kansas, the assets are categorized as either marital or non-marital. Assets, including real estate, boats, cars, or jewelry—as just a few examples—are marital property when they were obtained at some point throughout the marriage, and are subject to equal division. Items given to just one spouse as a gift or obtained by one party prior to the marriage is not subject to distribution to the other spouse, as this is viewed as non-marital property.
